Cotes du Coeur

Passages of a Glorified Hobby

Text Box: It began as a Saturday morning phone call in November and ended with sequins and tuxedos in April…
The phone call, as often happens, began as a friendly, hearty conversation about the winery. Forty minutes later we had a new friendship and another Fielding Hills adventure for the Wade family. The call, was from Dallas and Mr. Howard Mudrick, chairman of wineries inviting us to Cotes du Coeur. What is Cotes du Coeur? An excerpt from the Cotes du Coeur website explains…
In April 2005, the American Heart Association-Dallas Division hosted the 14th annual International Fine Wine Auction & Celebrity Chef Dinner — Côtes du Coeur. Imagine — 1,200 guests, 12 of the area’s most celebrated chefs, and 24 of the world’s finest wineries — all coming together into one spectacular evening of gourmet delicacies and fabulous wine. Côtes du Coeur is one of the largest charity wine auctions in the Southwest. The black-tie event netted more than $1,000,000 for the American Heart Association. Since its inaugural year in 1992, Côtes du Coeur has attracted more than 10,700 attendees and has raised more than $5.9 million for cardiovascular research and heart-health education programs.
So, with formal and tux in hand we headed to Dallas and appeared at the gala auction along side wineries that have been like childhood superstars to us, Grgich, Flora Springs, Kathryn Hall, Kendall-Jackson, Moet Chandon. Our 2001 Cabernet Sauvignon was paired with celebrity chef David Holben’s Morel Crusted Prime Strip Loin. Rumor has it we are being invited to return...care to join us? They really do, do everything bigger in Texas including raising 1 million dollars in a single evening.
